Windsor keep pressure on leaders with another comprehensive win

NPL Teddington 177-7
Windsor 178-4 (Huggins 85)

Windsor completed their 3rd win in 4 games and moved into third position in Division 4b with another comprehensive victory over NPL Teddington. After losing the toss and being asked to field on what looked a very good batting track and scorching sunshine, Windsor began steadily with Warren Griffiths and Chris Edge restricting NPL’s run scoring to an absolute minimum, conceding just 20 runs from the first ten overs and after a sharp chance at gully from Rob Dawson removed NPL’s captain Ben Wollant in the 11th over Windsor began to boss the game. The introduction of Alex Hill saw him manage only 2 deliveries before being forced off with a shoulder injury however, this proved to be a blessing in disguise as Stuart Millman completed the over and took a wicket with his booming outswing with his very first ball. Wickets fell steadily throughout the innings thanks to good discipline from Griffiths, Millman and Richard Endacott, and it wasn’t until NPL’s 7th wicket pair made a stand of 71 to finish on 177 from the allotted 52 overs that showed how good a batting track this was and that NPL were some way short of par for the course.

Windsor openers Paul Huggins and Richard Noble provided a steady start and their fifty partnership was just the tonic for Windsor’s reply. Huggins played some elegant shots around the ground and his fifty marked a welcome return to form for the prolific batsman. After Noble had gone for 25 and Rob Dawson was adjudged LBW, NPL may have thought they were in with a shout, but once again the free scoring Tom Bullock took the game away from them with quick running and hard hitting. The only blip on Windsor’s batting was that Huggins did not reach the deserved century mark falling for 85 but Stuart Millman and Tom Bullock saw Windsor home with ease with more than ten overs to spare.

Another comfortable win keeps Windsor in the hunt.
Marlow 141 (Endacott 20-4)
Windsor 145-5 (Millman 82, Bullock 29*)

Denied an almost certain victory last week by the weather at leaders OMT, Windsor entertained Marlow Park on Saturday with their overseas player Sajjid in a rich vein of form having hit 300+ runs in his last two innings. Winning the toss and bowling, Windsor were unfortunate not to make early inroads into the Marlow attack with Slater playing some agricultural shots from the off and scoring at over 4 an over Marlow were looking for a big score. However Slater was bowled by Pitt with the score on 64 and this brought the high scoring Sajjad to the crease.

A few elegant shots to the boundary off paceman Warren Griffiths signalled his intent and at 78-1 and plenty of overs remaining Windsor were looking nervous. However the introduction of the bustling Alex Hill brought dividends from the very first ball when Sajjad played back and was rapped on the pads bang in front to be dismissed LBW. The game then swung back into Windsor’s favour as wickets fell with regularity. This was especially so with the introduction of spinner Rahoul Mohindrou and the rejuvenated Richard Endacott who between them mopped up the tail to dismiss Marlow for 141.

Windsor’s reply started shakily with the normally steady Paul Huggins being bowled and Rob Dawson being adjudged LBW. However Stuart Millman, playing some powerfull pulls and drives saw Windsor out of trouble hitting a quickfire 83 before edging one to the wicketkeeper with the job almost done. It was left to Tom Bullock with another not out innings of 29 and Oliver Birch to see Windsor to a comfortable victory.

Job Done

High Wycombe 148 (Griffiths 51-5, Endacott 44-3)
Windsor 150-6 (Bullock 36*)

It was never going to be classic cricket at a dull, windy and cold Ibstone ground for Windsor 2’s last Saturday and although they made had work of chasing a low total, it was a case of job done by the end of the day.

Winning the toss stand in skipper Warren Griffiths decided to bowl and both he and fellow opener Oliver Birch both initially failed to find consistency as High Wycombe got off to a good start and after 14 overs we looking good at 62-0. However the introduction of the experienced Richard Endacott, bowling an accurate line and length together with a rejuvenated Griffiths brought instant results. Brian Davis took two sharp chances behind the stumps off Griffiths and when Endacott clean bowled Javed High Wycombe had slumped to 65-3 and Windsor had their tails up. High Wycombe never recovered and wickets fell at regular intervals with Endacott picking up a total of 44-3 with Griffiths the chief destroyer returning 51-5. The introduction of Alex Hill saw off the tail and High Wycombe were eventually dismissed for 148.

Windsor’s reply spluttered somewhat after the removal of Richard Noble caught at Mid off and the freak dismissal of Brian Davis after playing a ball off the back of his ankle which rolled onto the stumps. Rob Dawson and Paul Huggins rallied hitting some clean boundaries between them although both were dismissed in the 30’s and the run out of Hameet Channa caused High Wycombe to think they may be back in the game. However a quick fire 17 from Damien Bradbury and another 36 not out from Tom Bullock saw Windsor home eventually for the loss of 6 wickets.
