Outplayed

Windsor crashed to their first defeat of the season against a well organised and patient Bracknell attack on a damp cold day at the Home Park. Losing the toss Windsor were inserted on in a reduced over game of 90 overs. The threat of rain was never far away and this seemed to play in the minds of the batsman as wickets fell regularly throughout the day with none really looking comfortable against the accurate Bracknell attack. Cameo innings from Brian Davis and Rob Dawson made the score look somewhat respectable but 155 was never really going to be enough especially after opening bowler Chris Edge sustained a injury that turned out later to be a broken toe and he was unable to take the field for the Bracknell Innings.

Seamer Warren Griffiths, taking over the captaincy made an excellent start by removing Hayes and although both Stuart Millman and Richard Endacott bowled valiantly and without luck once Kendrick and captain Kirby were set the dominated the attack at took the game away from Windsor to win comfortably in the gloom.

Windsor must now pick themselves up and record some form of victory away at High Wycombe next week to get their season back on track.

Windsor dominate but denied victory

Windsor 246-6 (Bullock 51, Millman 50)
Slough 167-7

Both sides went into this game unbeaten this season and afterwards both remained so although Windsor were left wondering what more they had to do to gain victory after dominating the entire game from start to finish.

Slough vice captain Anil Karkara had commented in the press that Slough were confident that they could chase down any Windsor total and hoping for positive cricket from Slough, Windsor captain Chris Edge decided to bat after winning the toss. A steady start once again from Paul Huggins and Richard Noble set Windsor up nicely and although Slough were bowling well they were not taking wickets. Elevated to number 3, Stuart Millman together with Tom Bullock began to dominate the bowling and runs flowed throughout the field. Both reached deserved half centuries although both lost their wickets almost as soon as they had done so. However, Slough were denied any respite and a welcome return to form from Richard Charters hitting a dominant 40 with help from Abul Ashraf saw Windsor post an impressive 246-6 from 52 overs.

Slough’s response was almost lethargic considering they were required to score at over 5 an over and had limped to just 20 from the first 10 overs with Chris Edge and Warren Griffiths both unlucky not to remove the openers early. Iqbal then upped the run rate combining classic cover drives with mistimed skews for 4 before committing cricketing suicide by bunting a ball straight back to bowler Stuart Millman and demanding a single from his partner that was never there. The run out was a formality and from then on despite some cameo innings from Slough batsman with 18 overs remaining and the score at 120-5 Slough gave up the run chase, content instead to play out maidens with the batsmen ‘congratulating’ each other on surviving another over. The return of Edge and Griffiths caused Slough some problems with Kakara in particular having difficulty playing the short ball however he rode his luck until the penultimate over when he was clean bowled by Edge. By that point he had done his ‘job’ and another afternoon playing negative, result-less cricket had been achieved.

WINDSOR 2 225-4 (Huggins 96*, Bullock 49)
AMERSHAM 2 184-7 ( W.Walsh 71* , A.Hill 6-32)

Another draw mars superb individual performances

Windsor remain unbeaten but now adrift from the leaders in Divison 4b after another dominating display on Saturday left them ultimately fruitless as yet another side were prepared to play out for a draw at the Home Park.

Having lost the toss Windsor were inserted and the extreme consistency this season from Rob Noble and Paul Huggins again continued as they put on 49 for the first wicket to set Windsor up for another big total. Amersham bowled a tight line for much of the innings and at 130-2 from 28 overs were probably hopeful that they could restrict Windsor to a low total. However the fall of Abdual Ashraf’s wicket brought the in form Tom Bullock to the crease and he and Huggins immediately put the bowling to the sword. Boundaries flowed as Huggins moved swifty past his fifty and Bullock with his lightening speed was turning singles into twos as runs leaked throughout the field. In no time at all Bullock had raced to 49 before attempted a chip over gully was caught one short of a deserved half century. Huggins moved the score past 200 and in the final over facing the last ball he needed 6 to complete his century. Although his shot was high over extra cover, it fell well short of the boundary and 2 runs brought up 225 runs from the allotted 52 overs.

Having been inserted, Windsor were hopeful that Amersham would chase the total and a result could be obtainted. Amersham started well and their openers played some attacking shots from the start scoring at the required 4 runs an over for the first 10 overs. However the introduction of Alex Hill changed the game completely. Tearing in from the river end 2 wickets in 2 balls in his first over put Amersham on the back foot and the game was on. Hill continued to bowl superbly and backed up from some eager fielding actioning a superb run out, Windsor seemed to be in control. However at 130-5 as so often been seen this season Amersham seemed to lose interest in the run chase. Trying to temp Amersham back into the game Windsor were forced to remove the superb Hill from the attack and turn to the very part time spin of Abdul Ashraf for a few overs. Still not taking the carrot, skipper Chris Edge brought Hill back on and he immediately struck to get his 5th wicket. Hill claimed another wicket but now 7 down Amersham completely closed the game despite Windsor throwing everything at them in an attempt to claim the win, but ultimately to no avail. Opener Walsh batted throughout the 48 overs for 71 not out.

Despite playing almost all the cricket throughout the match and with 2 superb individual performances the Windsor dressing room had an air of defeat about it whilst Amersham congratulated themselves for holding on to a draw. Cricket was most certainly the loser.

Subarker spins Windsor to Victory

Chalfont St Peter 164 (Subarker 4-35)
Windsor 167-4 (Noble 50, Bullock 37*)

Windsor completed a comfortable win on Saturday by 6 wickets at home to Chalfont St Peter. Upon winning the toss Windsor elected to bat first and thanks to mix up with the batsmen and an early breakthrough from the bowlers, Windsor were in the box seat at 20-2 and never really relinquished it. Chalfont rallied to 70-2 but the introduction of the off spin of Amit Subarkher and the accurate Alex Hill, meant Windsor were able to turn the screw on Chalfont who thanks to some excellent outfielding were finding it increasingly difficult to score. Wickets fell constantly throughout the game and only a 30 run partnership for the 10th wicket saw Chalfont finally bowled out for 164, Amit Subarker with 4-35 being the chief destroyer.

Despite the low score Windsor were careful not to lose wicket early and established opening pair of Paul Huggins and Rob Noble did just that. Seeing off the early Chalfont attack after fifteen overs and Windsor 40-0, the run chase never looked in any difficulty. After losing Huggins, the elegant Andrew Chorley came to the crease and the run rate accelerated. However after completing his 50 Noble and Chorley went in quick succession, although this only brought the hard hitting and fast running of Tom Bullock to the crease and he and Abul Ashraf got Windsor to within touching distance of the total before Ashraf was adjudged LBW and it was left to Richard Noble and Bullock to complete the easy victory.

Windsor lack killer instinct

Windsor 245-3 Dec. (R.W. Noble 70, T Bullock 65*)
Kidmore End 214-6

Due to severe problems with availabilities last weekend, Windsor 2’s travelled to Kidmore End with 7 changes and showed the strength in depth of the club by dominating in almost all areas against Kidmore End but just lacked the killer instinct to claim all 25 points as Kidmore happily played out for a draw.

Vice Captain Rob Noble, standing in for normal captain Chris Edge who was playing with double break in a finger, won the toss and elected to bat, and almost straight away this proved to be the right decision. Noble and Paul Huggins resumed their opening partnership and once again saw off the new ball to put Windsor in a commanding position. Runs ran freely throughout the field although this was as much in part to Kidmore’s poor fielding as Windsor’s good batting. After Huggins departed for 39, Rob Noble and Abdul Ashraf continued the good scoring and after Ashraf was bowled by Khaner, this set the mantle for Tom Bullock to make the best of his free scoring ability as he put the Kidmore bowlers to the sword. Both he and Noble made deserved half centuries, and after fifty overs Windsor were able to declare on 245-3.

A prolonged period of drizzle saw the restart delayed slightly when it did it saw Chris Edge remove both openers in the first 10 overs and Windsor were in the box seat. There followed a period of consolidation for Kidmore with Nawaz and Clarke batting well although these both fell to the bowling changes of spin from Amit Subarker and the very part time Rob Noble. However, these two quick wickets lead to the fall of another 2 from the same pair and this effectively ended the game as a contest as Kidmore on 146-6 with 14 overs to go gave up the ghost. The spin of Noble and Subarker continued with some over attacking fields trying to get them back into the game but after passing 200 in the penultimate over Windsor left the final over to 4th team batsman Ben Lickley to bowl and he was extremely unfortunate not to have had Jones caught when attempting to pass his fifty mark.
